Biography

JONAS JAKAITIS, professor and Head of the Department of Design at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Professor Jonas graduated with a Master‘s degree in Architecture from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (1997) and holds a Ph.D in History and Theory of Arts (2007).

Prof. Jonas is a member of the Association of Lithuanian of Landscape Architects (since 2016 prof. Jonas is a chair personon the board of experts). In addition, prof. Jonas is a certified architect expert, an expert of the Lithuanian Evaluation Centre of the Quality of Studies, a member of the Certification Commission of architects under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, an expert of the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology under the Ministry of Economy, an expert of the Lithuanian Council for Culture and an ambassador at UK Design Council for Lithuania. Jonas Jakaitisis a participant of many international and national conferences and seminars. Also prof. Jonas is involved in a number of programs, projects and other commissions, and participates in different workshops.

More than 70 publications have been prepared by Jonas Jakaitis as well as several training bookings including: City Planning Regulations and Democracy, Complex Planning-Design Methodology, the monograph – A Discourse on the Members of Urban Spatial Formation under Conditions of Modern Democracy.

Jonas Jakaitis‘s research covers the evolution of materials and industrial designs in urban spaces, urban planning and design, landscape architecture, urban planning regulations, history of urban planning and the material environment design, public and private partnership, society participation in urban design, and universal design and sustainable formation of the living environment from small details to big picture.

Prof. Jonas has planned over 60 projects on science, urban, architecture, interior, graphic design on an individual basis or in collaboration, assisted in working out the county development plan for Vilnius in Lithuania, Vilnius city Master plan, urban design and planning documents and product design projects on the national or international level. Prof. Jonas Jakaitis has won several contests for urban planning and architecture competitions.

Prof. Jonas is on the editorial boards of the science periodicals „Civil Engineering and Architecture“ (Horizon Research Publishing, USA (HRPUB)); "International Journal of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education“ Academicians‘ India (Research Center); „International Journal of Architecture, Arts and Applications”, USA; „The Educational Review“, USA; „Smart Construction Research“, Singapore; „Architecture and Design Review“, Singapore; „Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning“, USA; „Journal of Civil Engineering Research & Technology“ UK and „Journal of Social Studies and Humanities“, USA.

Professor Jonas has received awards from the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, the Parliament’s Committee on Environment Protection, and Mayors of Vilnius, Siauliai, and Bursa (Turkey) for works done for people and Lithuania.
